Universal and Language-Specific Connected Speech Characteristics of Bilingual Speakers With Alzheimer's Disease: Insights From Case Studies of Structurally Distinct Languages.

Connected speech analysis has been effectively utilized for the diagnosis and disease monitoring of individuals with Alzheimer's disease (AD). Existing research has been conducted mostly in monolingual English speakers with a noticeable lack of evidence from bilinguals and non-English speakers, particularly in non-European languages. Using a case study approach, we characterized connected speech profiles of two Bengali-English bilingual speakers with AD to determine the universal features of language impairments in both languages, identify language-specific differences between the languages, and explore language impairment characteristics of the participants with AD in relation to their bilingual language experience. Participants included two Bengali-English bilingual speakers with AD and a group of age-, gender-, education-, and language-matched neurologically healthy controls. Connected speech samples were collected in first language (L1; Bengali) and second language (L2; English) using a novel storytelling task (i.e., Frog, Where Are You?). These samples were analyzed using an augmented quantitative production analysis and correct information unit analyses for productivity, fluency, syntactic and morphosyntactic features, and lexical and semantic characteristics. Irrespective of the language, AD impacted speech productivity (speech rate and fluency) and semantic characteristics in both languages. Unique language-specific differences were noted on syntactic measures (reduced sentence length in Bengali), lexical distribution (fewer pronouns and absence of reduplication in Bengali), and inflectional properties (no difficulties with noun or verb inflections in Bengali). Among the two participants with AD, the individual who showed lower proficiency and usage in L2 (English) demonstrated reduced syntactic complexity and morphosyntactic richness in English. Evidence from these case studies suggests that language impairment features in AD are not universal across languages, particularly in comparison to impairments typically associated with language breakdowns in English. This study underscores the importance of establishing connected speech profiles in AD for non-English-speaking populations, especially for structurally different languages. This would in turn lead to the development of language-specific markers that can facilitate early detection of language deterioration and aid in improving diagnosis of AD in individuals belonging to underserved linguistically diverse populations. https://doi.org/10.23641/asha.25412458.

Kinetic and quantitative analysis of gaseous products of thermochemical biomass conversion based on thermogravimetric and mass‐spectrometric data

AbstractThe aim of this study is to apply a new approach to the quantitative analysis of the formation of gaseous products generated during the thermochemical conversion of wood waste samples of different fineness by using thermogravimetric analysis with mass spectrometry (TGA‐MS). Profiles of the release of gaseous components in the process of thermochemical conversion of wood samples were obtained based on data from the combined use of mass spectrometry and thermogravimetry. The resulting mass spectrometric data were processed according to the proposed methodology and the characteristics of the released gases were noted. The kinetic coefficients of the gases’ formation were calculated from the processed data.

Thermal decomposition of polyolefins under different oxygen content. Composition of products and thermal effects

The thermal decomposition of polyethylene and polypropylene was studied under conditions of different oxygen contents in the carrier gas in the temperature range of 200–600 °C. The effect of adding an oxidizing agent to the carrier gas was studied at (O2/N2)mol ratios of 0/100; 1/99; 2/98; 4/96; 6/94; 10/90; 21/79. Combined TG-FTIR and TG-DSC techniques were used in the studies. Based on FTIR spectra, a quantitative and qualitative analysis of the process gaseous products was performed. The study showed that the thermal degradation of polyolefins can lead to mixtures of saturated and unsaturated hydrocarbons, which are an attractive substitute for natural gas for hydrogen production. The molar ratio of saturated/unsaturated hydrocarbons for PE and PP is 3/2. The composition of the gas product mixture as well as the heat balance of the process can be controlled by adjusting the oxygen concentration in the carrier gas. With a content of 3%O2 in the carrier gas for PE and 4%O2 for PP, autothermal conditions of the thermal processing of polyolefins are achieved. The addition of oxygen accelerates the transformation of polyolefins and thus lowers the optimal process temperature. The CxHyO and CO mixture, coexisting with the hydrocarbon mixture in some process variants, can be converted by the water shift reaction into a mixture of H2 and CO2.

Geomatic tools used in the management of agricultural activities: a systematic review

AbstractManaging agricultural activity encompasses technology, geographic information, spatial data and geomatic tools as support techniques. In this framework, agricultural mapping is an essential geomatic application due to its importance in managing food systems. This research aims to analyze the state of knowledge of geomatics tools and their applications in agriculture through a systematic review of scientific documents and methodological approaches, highlighting the use of geomatics in agricultural mapping to evaluate trends in agriculture management. The study methodology consists of a scientific base of publications on geomatics and its applications in sustainable agriculture, with a quantitative analysis of production and its approaches. Subsequently, PRISMA establishes a systematic review in search of the subject’s methods, applications and trends. The results show that of the total data analyzed, 60% corresponds to general agricultural mapping for crop/water/soil mapping using satellite images. Twenty percent for land use and coverage, considering the georeferencing that contributes to agricultural territorial planning. Nine percent consider geomatic key for agricultural cadastre (plot management). In addition, 6% corresponds to precision agriculture and 5% to watershed management. The most predominant geomatics tools are: Geographic Information System (GIS), Global Positioning System (GPS), unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and remote sensing (RS). Also, among the most used geomatic techniques in agricultural cartography, photogrammetry in crop phenology and multispectral analysis in the optimisation and monitoring of agricultural production stand out. Studies show that the geomatic application promotes sustainability practices such as crop rotation, seeds dispersed and germinated by animals, agricultural irrigation through rivers/basins/streams, family gardens and generation of employment sources. The geomatics use is of great utility/potential for the acquisition and generation of geospatial data accurately, with time and cost savings that contribute to the decision-making of city councils, public cadastral administrations, enterprises, educational institutions and agricultural foundations.

New combined absorption/1H NMR method for qualitative and quantitative analysis of PET degradation products

Poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) is a very valuable and beneficial material for industrial purposes, with various different applications. Due to the high annual production volume of over 50 million tons worldwide and the indiscriminate disposal by consumers, the polymers accumulate in the environment, causing negative effects on various ecosystems. Biodegradation via suitable enzymes represents a promising approach to combat the plastic waste issue so validated methods are required to measure the efficiency and efficacy of these enzymes. PETase and MHETase from Ideonella sakaiensis are suitable enzymes needed in combination to completely degrade PET into its environmentally friendly monomers. In this project, we compare and combine a previously described bulk absorbance measurement method with a newly established 1H NMR analysis method of the PET degradation products mono(2-hydroxyethyl) terephthalic acid, bis(2-hydroxyethyl) terephthalic acid and terephthalic acid. Both were optimized regarding different solvents, pH values and drying processes. The accuracy of the measurements can be confirmed with sensitivity limits of 2.5–5 µM for the absorption method and 5–10 µM for the 1H NMR analysis. The combination of the described methods therefore allows a quantitative analysis by using bulk absorption coupled with a qualitative analysis through 1H NMR. The methods established in our work can potentially contribute to the development of suitable recycling strategies of PET using recombinant enzymes.

Chemical Characterization of Red Wine Polymers and Their Interaction Affinity with Odorants.

In order to characterize red wine polymers with regard to their binding properties to aroma compounds (odorants), a qualitative and quantitative analysis of chemical degradation products after different chemical treatments (thiolytic, acidic, and alkaline depolymerization) of high -molecular-weight (HMW) fractions of red wine was performed. Using 1H NMR, LC-ToF-MS, LC-MS/MS, and HPIC revealed key structural features such as carbohydrates, organic acids, phenolic compounds, anthocyanins, anthocyanidins, amino acids, and flavan-3-ols responsible for odorant-polymer interactions. Further, NMR-based interaction studies of the selected aroma compounds 3-methylbutanol, cis-whisky lactone, 3-methylbutanoic acid, and 3-isobutyl-2-methoxypyrazine with HMW polymers after chemical treatment demonstrated a reduced interaction affinity of the polymer compared to the native HMW fractions, and further, the importance of aromatic compounds such as flavan-3-ols for the formation of odorant polymer interactions. In addition, these observations could be verified by human sensory experiments. For the first time, the combination of a compositional analysis of red wine polymers and NMR-based interaction studies with chemically treated HMW fractions enabled the direct analysis of the correlation of the polymer's structure and its interaction affinity with key odorants in red wine.

Portfolio Theory and COVID-19: A Quantitative Analysis of Investment Products

This study examines the analysis of different investment products after the COVID-19 pandemic, using portfolio theory, with the aim of exploring an optimal investment allocation, assuming that investors are rational and that there are no other contingencies that could affect the upward or downward trend of the investment products. Risk may be quantified and varies in practice. Investment risks are higher for financial instruments with higher volatility, but potential gains and losses are also more significant. Therefore, a person must take more risks to get a larger return on investment, and taking more risks should be rewarded proportionally with higher returns. This research can create a preliminary investment portfolio by thoroughly calculating and analyzing the real situation of various investment goods and by assessing various assets using the portfolio theory.

Determining the geographical origin and glycogen content of oysters using portable near-infrared spectroscopy: Comparison of classification and regression approaches

Oysters are extensively cultivated worldwide. However, significant variations in chemical composition, quality, and price exist between oysters from different geographical origins. This study employed portable near-infrared spectroscopy in conjunction with chemometric analysis to determine the geographical origin and glycogen content of oysters. Pretreatment methods (multiplicative scattering correction, first derivative, and second derivative) were used to preprocess the raw spectra. Partial least squares discriminant analysis (PLS-DA), orthogonal partial least squares discriminant analysis (OPLS-DA), and support vector machine (SVM) were then adopted to establish the qualitative models. Partial least squares regression (PLSR) and support vector machine regression (SVMR) were compared for predicting the glycogen content. The results revealed that the PLS-DA, OPLS-DA, and SVM models classified the geographical origin of oysters with 100% accuracy. For quantitative analysis, the regression equations displayed high predictive ability. The SVMR model was superior to the PLSR model for glycogen content prediction, with a coefficient of determination of prediction (R2P) of 0.9253 and a residual prediction deviation (RPD) of 3.62. Therefore, the proposed approach is suitable for the accurate and environmentally friendly determination of the geographical origin and glycogen content of oysters, thus representing an attractive alternative method for the traceability supervision and quantitative analysis of seafood products.

The impact of personal care products on the image quality of Magnetic Resonance Imaging

BackgroundMagnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a crucial diagnostic imaging tool as it has a high contrast resolution for soft tissues. In MRI, the artifact is an unwanted appearance in the image which degrades the image quality and hence hampers the accurate diagnosis of disease. The presence of metallic compounds in several personal care products (PCPs) causes artifacts in MR images. ObjectivesThis study aimed to find the relationship between hair and body (healthcare) products and MRI artifacts. MethodsA total of 22 PCPs (hairs, body, and a few makeup products) were tested utilizing a 1.5 T MRI scanner. The products were filled in a small plastic bag taped to the performance phantom. The phantom was placed in a brain RF coil and scanned using T1-weighted and T2-weighted images. ResultsA total of 16 out of 22 PCPs showed artifacts in the clinical and quantitative analysis, with effects ranging from mild to severe artifacts. ConclusionBased on the quantitative and clinical analysis of personal care products, it can be reported that some hair and body products, as well as cosmetics, can generate visual artifacts. If the artifact is located in the same area of interest as the image, it may degrade the image quality and lead to a medical misdiagnosis.

Climatic variability and its impact on the indigenous agricultural system using panel data analysis in the Sikkim Himalaya, India.

Climate-induced extreme events with fluctuations in climatic indicators like temperature and precipitation highly influence crop productivity. This study deals with quantitative analysis of climatic variability and crop production (1990-2018) using panel data regression analysis. The focus is on variability of three crops, i.e., paddy, maize, and wheat in the Rangit river basin of Sikkim Himalaya, India. Meterological data were acquired from the Indian Meteorological Department, agricultural data from the state agricultural department and a field survey were also conducted with the farmers, using a structured questionnaire, focused group discussion, and key informant observations. The acquired data was analyzed with the help of correlation and multiple linear regression analysis to analyze the relationship between climatic variability and crop production. The result of the study shows that all three crops are dependent on rainfall; however, paddy was the most sensitive to climatic variability. It was found that the overall grain production had an inverse relation to temperature, but it had a positive correlation with rainfall. It was observed that there was a continuous decline in the overall production of paddy and wheat. During deficiency years, it was found that when - 11.33% rainfall was deficient, paddy yield declined by - 1.52%. Further, a deviation of - 13.48% led to a decline of - 54.78% in wheat. The study advocates that timely policy interventions and strategies shall reduce climatic shocks and improve productivity. This would strengthen the livelihood security of the local communities, overcome the challenges of food security, and ensure long-term sustainability of Rangit River basin.

Effect of Al and Si addition on passivation of stainless steels in H2SO4 solution

The dissolved masses of Fe, Cr, Al, and Si in H2SO4 solution during the polarization of Cr-containing steels were quantified by online ICP-OES. The active dissolution current on 11Cr-2Al/-2Si was smaller than that on 11Cr due to the enrichment of Al/Si on the steel. The Cr dissolution from 11Cr2Al was suppressed in passive state, while that from 11Cr2Si was decreased in active-passive transition because accumulated Al or Si products have different physicochemical effects on the Cr-enrichment of the surface. Roles of Al/Si in corrosion process, especially passivation, were discussed based on quantitative analysis of dissolution products detected by ICP-OES.

Mechanism of supercritical water gasification of corn stover for hydrogen-rich syngas: Composition of reaction products

Hydrogen-rich syngas from supercritical water gasification (SCWG) of renewable biomass is a promising technology. However, due to the complexity of the biomass structure, there is limited research on the liquid and solid products generated by SCWG of real biomass, and the related hydrolysis and gasification mechanisms are not yet clear. In this study, SCWG experiments were carried out on corn stover through a batch reactor, and the products were analyzed by gas-phase GC, liquid-phase GC-MS, UV spectroscopy, ultimate analysis, FTIR, PY-GC/MS, BET specific surface area, and SEM. The mechanism of corn stover SCWG was revealed by qualitative and quantitative analyses of gas products, the composition of liquid products, and the functional groups, carbon skeleton, surface morphology and specific surface area of solid products. The results showed that the aliphatic groups were hydrolyzed and gasified first at 400–500 °C. When the temperature rose to 600 °C, the aromatic groups were also gradually hydrolyzed and gasified, and the remaining aromatic groups underwent condensation and dehydrogenation to produce large molecular naphthalene, phenanthrene, pyrene, etc. The optimal biomass concentration was between 10.5 and 1 g/100 g water during the corn stover SCWG, and the reaction was completed in 15 min.

Quantitative ABCD Analysis of Ayurvedic Products and Their Impact on Trust

Purpose: The main goal of the paper is to pinpoint the variables affecting consumer trust in the use of Ayurvedic products. It seeks to assess the elements that influence the model's advantages, benefits, constraints and disadvantages. The goal is to use the ABCD model to give each aspect the appropriate scores or weights. To further shed light on the intricacies of the subject, the paper also intends to use factor analysis and elementary analysis. Design: This study conducted a thorough evaluation of the literature on the ABCD analytical framework. The study was successful in identifying key influencing factors and critical constituent characteristics that contribute to customer trust in consuming Ayurvedic products by quantitative analysis involving focus group interactions and suitable weightage assignment to essential attributes. Findings: The survey found that many companies and people are adopting a fresh strategy based on sustainability or survival in order to deal with their pressing problems and find quick relief. Focus group talks were used to analyse customer trust in the use of Ayurvedic products, and the ABCD analytic framework application was heavily endorsed for its beneficial elements. The results of this model thus support the effectiveness of using Ayurvedic products. Photovoltaic Production Management under Constrained Regulatory Requirements: A Step towards a Local Energy Community Creation

Addressing the urgent need for sustainable energy sources due to the high costs and environmental impacts of fossil fuels, this research explores the integration of decentralized solar photovoltaic (PV) systems in urban Southern European settings. Specifically, we examine the effectiveness of a solar carport PV installation at a higher education institution, focusing on the challenges of energy surplus management within regulated markets that restrict grid energy injection. Our study employed a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative data analysis of energy production with qualitative assessments of regulatory frameworks. The innovative aspect of our method lies in the development of a smart management system tailored to circumvent legal barriers, ensuring optimal use of locally produced energy and fostering the creation of an energy community with shared energetic, environmental, and social benefits. Preliminary results demonstrate that our system not only prevents energy loss but also enhances investment return by enabling the institution to become an energy prosumer within its community. A comparative analysis with traditional energy exercises reveals that our approach significantly improves energy self-sufficiency and sustainability, positioning decentralized PV systems as a viable solution in similar urban contexts.

Quantitative and Qualitative Analysis of Neurotransmitter and Neurosteroid Production in Cerebral Organoids during Differentiation.

In the human brain, neurophysiological activity is modulated by the movement of neurotransmitters and neurosteroids. To date, the similarity between cerebral organoids and actual human brains has been evaluated using comprehensive multiomics approaches. However, a systematic analysis of both neurotransmitters and neurosteroids from cerebral organoids has not yet been reported. Here, we performed quantitative and qualitative assessments of neurotransmitters and neurosteroids over the course of cerebral organoid differentiation. Our multiomics approaches revealed that the expression levels of neurotransmitter-related proteins and RNA, including neurosteroids, increase as cerebral organoids mature. We also found that the electrophysiological activity of human cerebral organoids increases in tandem with the expression levels of both neurotransmitters and neurosteroids. Our study demonstrates that the expression levels of neurotransmitters and neurosteroids can serve as key factors in evaluating the maturity and functionality of human cerebral organoids.

[Development progress of stationary phase for supercritical fluid chromatography and related application in natural products].

Supercritical fluid chromatography (SFC) is an environment-friendly and efficient column chromatography technology that was developed to expand the application range of high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) using a supercritical fluid as the mobile phase. A supercritical fluid has a temperature and pressure that are above the critical values as well as relatively dynamic characteristics that are between those of a gas and liquid. Supercritical fluids combine the advantages of high solubility and diffusion, as their diffusion and viscosity coefficients are equivalent to those of a gas, while maintaining a density that is comparable with that of a liquid. Owing to the remarkable compressibility of supercritical fluids, analyte retention in SFC is significantly influenced by the density of the mobile phase. Thus, the column temperature and back pressure are crucial variables that regulate analyte retention in SFC. Increasing the back pressure can increase the density and solubility of the mobile phase, leading to reductions in retention time. The column temperature can affect selectivity and retention, and the degree to which different analytes are affected by this property varies. On the one hand, increasing the temperature reduces the density of the mobile phase, thereby extending the retention time of the analytes; on the other hand, it can also increase the energy of molecules, leading to a shorter retention time of the analyte on the stationary phase. CO2, the most widely employed supercritical fluid to date, presents moderate critical conditions and, more importantly, is miscible with a variety of polar organic solvents, including small quantities of water. In comparison with the mobile phases used in normal-phase liquid chromatography (NPLC) and reversed-phase liquid chromatography (RPLC), the mobile phase for SFC has a polarity that can be extended over a wide range on account of its extensive miscibility. The compatibility of the mobile phase determines the diversity of the stationary phase. Nearly all stationary phases for HPLC, including the nonpolar stationary phases commonly used for RPLC and the polar stationary phases commonly used for NPLC, can be applied to SFC. Because all stationary phases can use the same mobile-phase composition, chromatographic columns with completely different polarities can be employed in SFC. The selectivity of SFC has been effectively expanded, and the technique can be used for the separation of diverse analytes ranging from lipid compounds to polar compounds such as flavonoids, saponins, and peptides. The choice of stationary phase has a great impact on the separation effect of analytes in SFC. As new stationary phases for HPLC are constantly investigated, specialized stationary phases for SFC have also been continuously developed. Researchers have discovered that polar stationary phases containing nitrogen heterocycles such as 2-EP and PIC are highly suitable for SFC because they can effectively manage the peak shape of alkaline compounds and provide good selectivity in separating acidic and neutral compounds.The development of various stationary phases has promoted the applications of SFC in numerous fields such as pharmaceuticals, food production, environmental protection, and natural products. In particular, natural products have specific active skeletons, multiple active groups, and excellent biological activity; hence, these materials can provide many new opportunities for the discovery of novel drugs. According to reports, compounds related to natural products account for 80% of all commercial drugs. However, natural products are among the most challenging compounds to separate because of their complex composition and low concentration of active ingredients. Thus, superior chromatographic methods are required to enable the qualitative and quantitative analysis of natural products. Thanks to technological improvements and a good theoretical framework, the benefits of SFC are gradually becoming more apparent, and its use in separating natural products is expanding. Indeed, in the past 50 years, SFC has developed into a widely used and efficient separation technology. This article provides a brief overview of the characteristics, advantages, and development process of SFC; reviews the available SFC stationary phases and their applications in natural products over the last decade; and discusses prospects on the future development of SFC.

Quantitative Electrochemistry-Mass Spectrometry: Real-Time Detection of Volatile Products for Electrocatalysis and Batteries

A major challenge both within electrocatalysis and battery research concerns the real-time (i) identification and (ii) quantification of volatile reaction products as a function of the applied electrochemical parameters and the reaction conditions. Analysis of both steadily evolving gases and of fast- and transient reaction phenomena can reveal key insights into reaction mechanisms. To this end, methods like Differential Electrochemical Mass Spectrometry (DEMS)1 and On-line Electrochemical Mass Spectrometry (OLEMS)2 have been used successfully to study reaction mechanisms to an ever-increasing degree in recent years, primarily in aqueous electrolytes. Similarly, Online Electrochemical Mass Spectrometers (OEMS)3 have been essential for the study of gas evolution in batteries.However, to gain an in-depth understanding of these mechanisms, the ability to accurately relate the electrochemical charge transferred in the reaction to the amount of evolved product is essential. To this end, accurate calibration of MS signals is paramount. Calibration procedures available for DEMS systems are by themselves cumbersome and unreliable and full quantification is not possible for OLEMS.Herein, we show how a simple gas-based calibration procedure using chip-based Electrochemistry-Mass Spectrometry (EC-MS) can be used for reliable, fully quantitative real-time analysis of volatile electrochemical reaction products. We validate this calibration with electrochemistry-based calibration methods described previously.4,5 The new procedure allows to extend the quantitative analysis to systems with no a priori knowledge of faradaic efficiencies. We demonstrate calibration of important gases like H2, O2 and C2H4 in aqueous and non-aqueous electrolytes and exemplify the calibration methodology’s usefulness on standard electrochemical reactions. Qualitative and Quantitative Means of Production of Biogas from Biodegradable Waste (Cow Dung) for Sustainable Energy

Aims: This study was carried out by analyzing the quantitative and qualitative of the biogas produced from cow dung by degrading mechanism. 32L of bioreactors was used for the study.
 Methodology: The bioreactors were constructed to imitate the fixed batch prototype. The study lasted for 30 days and it was carried out at the National Centre for Energy Research and Development, University of Nigeria,Nsukka. Slurry was prepared in bioreactors. The substrates in the bioreactors were water and cow dung (intestinal and abdominal waste). The pH, the total solids (TS), volatile solids (VS) and total volatile fatty acid (VFA) characteristics of the substrate before and after digestion were determined using standard method. Quantitative and qualitative analysis of biogas production was by liquid displacement and gas Analyzer methods
 Results: The results of the TS, VS and VFA were 400 mg/l, 92mg/l and 16.7 mg/l respectively in the predigested samples and 92 mg/l, 17.4mg/l and 28.3mg/l respectively in the post digested samples. The quantity of biogas produced at the first week was 8.5liters, 7.5litre and 6.1liter from the 4th day, 5th day and 8th days. The qualitative analysis showed that the prominent biogas produced was methane. 
 Conclusion: The results of the research concluded that high quantity of biogas can be produced using cow dung. Approaches and technology for more efficient biogas producing consortia are proposed.

Differences in Connected Speech Outcomes Across Elicitation Methods

ABSTRACT Background Connected speech is often used to assess many aspects of an individual’s language abilities after stroke. However, it is unknown the degree to which elicitation methods differ in generating structural and syntactic aspects of connected speech, two critical components of successful communication. Quantifying the degree to which elicitation methods differ in eliciting structurally, syntactically, and lexically complex connected speech at the earliest stage of stroke before reorganization and rehabilitation of function independent of clinical diagnosis of aphasia has not been examined to date. Addressing this gap has implications for early clinical intervention as well as empirical studies of connected speech production. Aims We compared two common elicitation methods, picture description and storytelling on lexical, structural, and syntactic measures of connected speech in speakers during the acute stage of left hemisphere stroke. Methods & Procedures We measured connected speech using an automated quantitative production analysis approach (Fromm et al., 2021) in 71 native-English speaking participants (27 female; 59 ± 13 years) within an average 3.9 days from left hemisphere stroke onset. We tested the degree of agreement and consistency between elicitation methods for lexical, structural, and syntactic measures of connected speech, as well as the degree of concordance in classifying deficits across individuals. Outcomes & Results Storytelling elicited significantly more words and more structurally complex, lexically diverse, and syntactically accurate speech in comparison to picture description. Elicitation methods differed in measuring outcomes across participants for the lexical and syntactic, but not structural complexity aspects of connected speech where storytelling classified more participants with impairments in comparison to picture description. Conclusions These differences suggest storytelling provides assessment of connected speech abilities more reflective of real-world abilities where its use is particularly critical for examining individual differences and providing diagnoses of acute stroke language deficits. As a result, using storytelling as a connected speech elicitation method more effectively captures a patient’s language capabilities after stroke, consequently informing clinical diagnosis and treatment.

Comparative Study of Densitometry and Videodensitometry for Quantitating the Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients Using Thin Layer Chromatography – Systematic Review

Background: Chromatography is one of the analytical techniques widely used for the quality control process in the pharmaceutical industry. One of the analytical methods used in drug analysis is Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC). The analysis process of TLC can be performed using densitometry (scanner) or videodensitometry (videoscan). The principal analysis of densitometry (scanner) is based on the density measured from each spot on the TLC plate using a specific wavelength range, and videodensitometry (videoscan) is performed by taking pictures of the plate using a Visualizer at a specific wavelength. Objective: This review article discusses the application of densitometry and videodensitometry methods for quantitative analysis of pharmaceutical products. Methods: This study was conducted using a systematic review method using the PRISMA statement from January to April 2023. Four databases were searched: PubMed, ScienceDirect, Scopus, and Google Scholar with inclusion criteria: studies on thin layer chromatography analysis using densitometry and videodensitometry. Results: Based on the ten articles in this study, it is known that the active ingredient concentrations in pharmaceutical products can be determined using densitometry and videodensitometry. The statistical analysis results show no significant difference between the two methods' chemical concentrations of active ingredients in pharmaceutical products. Conclusion: TLC densitometry and videodensitometry is a valid methods analysis that can be used for quantitating the active pharmaceutical ingredient concentration in finished pharmaceutical products.
